FREE PUPPY SOCIALIZATION PARTIES! - Fall 2011

It is well known that puppies that experience a wide variety of new things at a very early age are more likely to grow into stable, well-adjusted dogs. By teaching your puppy good manners during this critical time in their development you can build a foundation for a lifetime of learning. Join us each Wednesday and let Dr. Alison Capitan help your puppy become a more secure and happy part of your family!

WHO IS INVITED TO THE PARTY?

  • Puppies between 6 to 18 weeks of age
  • Must have proof of veterinary care: at least one exam, one negative fecal test and vaccines appropriate to age. You may receive these services from College Village Animal Clinic or any veterinary office

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE PARTY?

New Medical Technology at College Village Animal Clinic - Summer 2011

The transition to Electronic Medical Records has been a painful experience for the medical profession.  As recently as January 2010 less than 50% of medical practices in the United States have made the transition from paper to electronic records.  Handwritten paper medical records have been associated with:

  • Poor legibility, which contributes to medical errors
  • Non-universal abbreviations, which restricts the utility of the medical record
  • Poor, incomplete or misplaced records.

Electronic Medical Records have demonstrated significant benefits including:

  • Standardization of forms, terminology, abbreviations and data input to minimize user error
  • Digitization allows the medical records of the patient to be available at the doctor's fingertips without the worry of lost or misplaced papers.
  • Electronic Records can be continuously updated and easily transferred to other veterinary clinics.

At College Village Animal Clinic we are proud to offer Electronic Medical Records as an integral part of our pet care system.  As a nimble small business we have been able to stay well ahead of the neotechnological curve.  Our mission is to provide the highest-quality pet care & and we believe investment in the newest computer infrastructure is critical.

Our new computer system allows us to immediately access the appointment schedule, review information from prior visits, and assist you with any questions you might have.  We can incorporate digital pictures or review an ongoing treatment schedule at the click of the mouse.  All of which leads to more efficient and more effective patient care.

The second major investment we have made in new medical technology is the addition of a high-end Digital X-ray Radiology system.  Digital radiography is a form of x-ray where digital sensors are used instead of the tradition photographic film.  There are numerous advantages including:

  • Immediate image preview and availability, along with a wider dynamic range during image taking, which is more forgiving for over- and under-exposure.
  • Special digital enhancement allows for better image definition and the digital format allows for the storage of the data in the electronic medical record.
  • Less radiation can be used to produce an image of similar quality to that of conventional radiography.

The mechanical advantage of digital x-ray technology is readily apparent and we are one of the few veterinary clinics in Anchorage to offer this new technology.  The powerful congruence between our new Electronic Medical Record system and the Digital X-ray Radiology system allows our doctors to review your pet’s history of lab work & digital radiographs in the same step.  They can now easily determine medical trends and discern patterns that aid in the care of your pet.  If a second opinion is required, we can forward the digital radiograph to veterinary radiologist specialists and universities around the world.

It is often said that ‘a warrior is only as good as his weapon.’   We have ensured that our doctors are armed with the best diagnostic tools, so we can provide the highest-quality care for your pet.  If you would like to see your pet’s radiographs, just ask the staff and they can show them to you on any terminal in the hospital.  We can also provide you a copy of your pet’s x-ray on disc upon request.
